“Nasrin” in Camper, Loft, and Tones Light.

“Nasrin” is a colorwork sweater by Isabell Kraemer, and the subject of Anne’s upcoming class, which starts Saturday, May 18.

She’s knitting hers with Kelbourne Woolens Camper, a soft fingering weight wool in heathered colors, and an excellent choice for colorwork.

You can choose between the “solid” or “outlined” colorwork motif at the yoke; both charts are included in the pattern. A high contrast color combination shows the pattern best, in my opinion – here are some ideas in Camper!

I also like the idea of flipping the color arrangement so that the main color is dark, and the contrast color at the yoke is light.

Brooklyn Tweed Loft is another yarn that seems designed with colorwork in mind, a woolen-spun fingering weight wool with a bit more structure than Camper.

Loft plays well with Brooklyn Tweed’s other fingering weight yarn, Tones Light – which has a much more vibrant color palette!

Look for all of these and many others in the fingering weight section here at our shop, and read more about Anne’s class if you’re inspired to make a “Nasrin” of your own!

New crochet books.

We’ve been acquiring a great many new and exciting crochet books of late, so many that they overwhelmed the teacart, where we usually show the latest publications. Wanting these new books to shine, I carved out a new display space just for the latest crochet books and magazines, so if crochet is your craft, come by and … [more]

Straw into Gold.

As I wrote last week from the TNNA showroom floor, catching up with designer Gina Wilde is always one of the highlights of our annual trip to market. She’s the artist and creative mind behind Alchemy yarns, but we love her as much for her funny anecdotes and generous spirit as we do for her … [more]

Hello, Scrumptious 4ply/Sport.

In a blog post a couple of weeks ago, I teased that our big box from Fyberspates held a new yarn we’d never carried before, along with refills on the Fyberspates yarns you’re used to seeing on our shelves. Just what was that new yarn, anyway? Meet Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply/Sport. Scrumptious 4ply/Sport is a soft, … [more]

Best.

Just as we were preparing in earnest to attend TNNA last week, we got some very encouraging good news: we were voted “Best Yarn Shop” in the IndyWeek’s Best of the Triangle 2016! We headed off to market bolstered by your enthusiasm, and looking forward to bringing a bunch of exciting new yarns and ideas home for … [more]

TNNA snapshot: more.

Yesterday’s snapshot posts only offer a tiny glimpse into the whirlwind that is TNNA. We saw lots of other familiar faces, not to mention plenty of new ones.  Heather at Ewe Ewe was showing her new Baa Baa Bulky, the thickest yet in her line of squishy superwash merino yarns.  We also made our annual stop … [more]

TNNA snapshot: Fibre Company.

Last month, our sales rep gave us a sneak preview of Arranmore, the newest Fibre Company yarn, so Anne placed our order long before the show.     Still, somehow we found ourselves at their booth today for more: skeins for sample sweaters, reorders on dwindling colors, and perhaps, just maybe, a new yarn. Now the show floor … [more]

TNNA snapshot: Alchemy.

We were so excited to catch up with Gina Wilde of Alchemy Yarns, having missed her at TNNA last year.  Our Silken Straw supply had gotten low, so we reordered some favorite shades and picked out a few new ones, admiring all the beautiful garments along the way.    Anne and Rosi are both sorely tempted to make … [more]

TNNA snapshot: Shibui.

Every year, Anne, Rosi and I attend The National NeedleArts Association’s summer trade show–TNNA for short. This year, it takes place in Washington, D.C., a shorter drive than the usual Columbus, OH. We opted for an abbreviated trip, leaving after closing up shop on Saturday evening. We got in late, ate the take-out dinner we … [more]

A visit from Jeni and Rachel.

Last night, our little shop filled with knitters and crocheters for a delightful event. We welcomed special guests Jeni Hewlett and Rachel Coopey, designers and yarn-makers from the UK. They arrived with a big box of books, enough to fill our teacart. Jeni and Rachel began by telling us a bit about their journey into the world … [more]
