LYS Day 2024!

We’re looking forward to Local Yarn Store Day, this Saturday, April 27th. Come to our shop on LYS Day for 25% off featured yarns!

LYS Day is about celebrating brick-and-mortar yarn shops and appreciating all that they offer. Here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop, we are proud of our selection of high quality yarns, books and tools, and our customer service. Our mission is to provide knitters and other fiber artists with quality materials and help connect them with the knowledge they need to make things they’re proud of.

All the yarn in our shop is sorted by gauge, with sections marked Lace weight, Worsted weight, Bulky weight, and so on. We hope this makes it easier to sort through our robust selection to find the yarn that’s right for your project! For LYS Day, we’re offering 25% off one featured yarn in each gauge section:

You can read about all our featured yarns on the links above, and look for the yellow signs to find them here at the shop on LYS Day!

Come by the Hillsborough Yarn Shop this Saturday to celebrate LYS Day and get some great deals! We’re open from 11 am – 5:30 pm; see you at the shop!

A reminder: all discounted yarns are final sale, no returns or exchanges. Discount applies only to in-stock items, no special orders. Thanks for understanding!

For crocheters.

The last couple of weeks have seen a trio of new publications for crocheters here at the shop. The Spring 2015 issue of Interweave Crochet features a range of projects, from blankets and bags to sweaters and skirts. Kristin Omdahl’s Crochet So Lovely is all about crocheted lace. She covers lace motifs and allover lace … [more]

Rowan Pure Wool: new colors, booklets.

Rowan has added six new shades to their Pure Wool Worsted line, and we’re happy to have them on our shelves. All six are heathered, each shade composed of a few solid shades that are blended together to look solid from a distance. They fill out our existing selection nicely to make a well-rounded palette. What … [more]

Vogue Knitting.

The Spring/Summer 2015 issue of Vogue Knitting is here! This issue features an article on sizing oversized sweaters, helping to make sense of positive ease. Meg Swansen’s column is all about decreases, and choosing the best kind for the project at hand. Besides the articles, there are plenty of patterns: a spread of sporty stripes, … [more]

New colors in Zauberball Starke 6.

We recently replenished our supply of Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball Starke 6, a sport weight, self-striping yarn. Zauberball Starke 6 slowly changes from one color to the next several yards at a time, so that whatever you’re knitting or crocheting with it comes out striped. Additionally, it’s 2-ply, where both plies are not always the same shade, … [more]

Hello, Shibui Staccato.

Another new yarn from Shibui! Meet Staccato. Staccato is a lustrous blend of 70% superwash merino and 30% silk in a fingering weight. Like Cima, it has a nice high twist, giving it the look of a string of pearls. Each 50 gram skein has 191 yards, enough for a hat or a pair of … [more]

Hello, Shibui Twig.

We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of Shibui’s newest yarn: meet Twig. Twig is a slightly textured blend of 46% linen, 42% recycled silk, and 12% wool. Each 50 gram skein has 190 yards, and it knits up at a sport or dk weight gauge into an open, draping fabric. Shibui yarns are dyed in … [more]

String Theory: new colors, show and tell.

Another shipment from String Theory arrived at the shop last week, a box filled with Bluestocking and Merino DK. We also happened to see these two yarns in a couple of beautiful finished projects recently, so I thought I’d share show and tell along with the news of new colors. Bluestocking is a soft, sturdy fingering … [more]

Addi FlipStix.

Addi has created a new kind of double pointed needle: meet Addi FlipStix. Some plant fiber yarns have a tendency to split, and for those, a blunt needle is preferable. Some stitch patterns require the precision of a sharp needle. FlipStix have a blunt Turbo point on one end and a sharp Lace point on the other, … [more]

Ewe Ewe Trunk Show!

Snowy weather delayed our Ewe Ewe Trunk Show a bit, but now it’s here! We have a variety of garments on display knit in Ewe Ewe’s superwash merino yarns, Ewe So Sporty and Wooly Worsted. From small projects, like socks, mitts and cowls, all the way up to baby blankets, shawls, and sweaters, the range of … [more]

New patterns for Isager yarns.

Isager yarns are a longtime favorite here at the shop. Anne’s passion for Marianne Isager’s yarns and designs has proved contagious, and we keep Alpaca 1 and Alpaca 2, Spinni, Tvinni, Highland, and Tweed in good stock as a result. We’re always on the lookout for new ways to use them, and to that end, we’ve … [more]
