LYS Day 2024!

We’re looking forward to Local Yarn Store Day, this Saturday, April 27th. Come to our shop on LYS Day for 25% off featured yarns!

LYS Day is about celebrating brick-and-mortar yarn shops and appreciating all that they offer. Here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop, we are proud of our selection of high quality yarns, books and tools, and our customer service. Our mission is to provide knitters and other fiber artists with quality materials and help connect them with the knowledge they need to make things they’re proud of.

All the yarn in our shop is sorted by gauge, with sections marked Lace weight, Worsted weight, Bulky weight, and so on. We hope this makes it easier to sort through our robust selection to find the yarn that’s right for your project! For LYS Day, we’re offering 25% off one featured yarn in each gauge section:

You can read about all our featured yarns on the links above, and look for the yellow signs to find them here at the shop on LYS Day!

Come by the Hillsborough Yarn Shop this Saturday to celebrate LYS Day and get some great deals! We’re open from 11 am – 5:30 pm; see you at the shop!

A reminder: all discounted yarns are final sale, no returns or exchanges. Discount applies only to in-stock items, no special orders. Thanks for understanding!

Hello, Vivacious 4ply.

This week, we welcomed a new yarn into the shop: Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply. Vivacious 4ply is a high twist, superwash merino wool in a fingering weight. Each 100 gram skein has 399 yards, enough for a pair of socks or mitts, a hat, scarf, or shawlette. Vivacious 4ply is hand-dyed, so each skein is unique, even … [more]

Show and tell: hats and scarves.

Time for another round of show and tell! Here are some of the finished projects our knitters have shared with us recently. Annmarie has been busy knitting colorwork tams with Jamieson Shetland Spindrift. First she made Sandy Blue’s “Autumn Tam,” while taking Nancy’s class here at the shop. Next, she used some of her leftover bits … [more]

Show and tell: Swans Island All American Worsted.

We always love to see what you’re making with HYS yarns, and I love to take photos of your beautiful finished pieces to share here on the blog. I have a nice collection to share at the moment, enough for two blog posts. Today’s group all happen to be made in the same wonderful yarn: Swans Island All American … [more]

New colors in Canopy Worsted.

This week’s delivery from Fibre Company held more than just new colors in Acadia; we also got three new shades of Canopy Worsted! “Turmeric” and “Dragonfruit” really brighten up the Canopy Worsted basket, and “Lemur” is a particularly beautiful steely gray that we simply couldn’t say no to. Canopy Worsted is a light worsted weight blend of … [more]

New colors in Acadia.

Fibre Company recently introduced new colors in Acadia, a luxurious blend of merino wool, silk, and alpaca. We’ve carried Acadia for a few years now, and always delight in adding a new color or two. It’s amazing how just a few new shades deepen the color palette. Suddenly instead of one gray, we have a warm gray and … [more]

The Best of Jane Austen Knits.

Designers like Vicki Square, Annie Modesitt, and Susanna IC are included, and garments range … [more]

New colors in Modern Cotton.

Berroco has dreamed up a few new colors for their Modern Cotton yarn, filling out their palette of crayon-bright colors with some more subdued hues. Berroco Modern Cotton is a worsted weight blend of cotton and rayon, and since it’s arrival last spring, it’s become a staple here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop. Smooth, soft … [more]

Back in stock: Cricket looms.

Our first round of Schacht Cricket looms sold out quickly over the holidays, so we ordered twice as many for our second batch, which I’m happy to say are now here at the shop. Two of them were purchased the moment they came in. You guessed it: Anne and I each have Crickets of our own … [more]

Back in stock: Binkwaffle bags.

I’m so happy to report that Binkwaffle bags are once again back in stock! These colorful project bags have been selling out in no time, thanks to their whimsical prints and reversible design. The small bags are a good size for a pair of socks or mitts, a hat or scarf, perhaps. The large bags … [more]

Knitscene.

The Spring 2015 issue of Knitscene is here! This issue arrived at the shop on one of the coldest days this winter, giving us plenty of warm-weather projects to look forward to. This cabled tee is knit in Berroco Maya, a lofty blend of cotton and alpaca, and the lightweight pullover below uses two shades … [more]
