HYS Hat Club: Quarter 2!

The HYS Hat Club continues, and we’re opening it up for Quarter 2 signups!

HYS Hat Club is a subscription of thoughtfully curated hat projects for knitters, pairing yarns and patterns to keep you entertained all year long. Each quarter includes three hat projects (one per month), and a few other surprises along the way.

HYS Hat Club, October 2020 – “Gault,” by Jared Flood, 2 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Arbor, and a sample of Brooklyn Tweed Dapple.

Patterns: Expect patterns from a variety of designers, using all kinds of techniques, including cables and other texture patterns, stranded colorwork, mosaic knitting, marling, and more.

Fiber: We love the elasticity of wool for hat-making, so there’ll be plenty of it, and all kinds, sometimes blended with other fibers, like cashmere, cotton, mohair, or silk.

Gauge: The yarns will vary in gauge, from fingering weight up to bulky.

Color: Choose from four color palettes – warm, cool, neutral, and surprise; select a second palette if you’d like a bit more variety throughout the quarter.

Price, terms, and timing:

Cost for HYS Hat Club Quarter 2, local pickup option: $150

Cost for HYS Hat Club Quarter 2, USPS shipping option: $174

Prepay for the first quarter by Saturday, December 19th, and expect an email early in January letting you know that your first HYS Hat Club order is ready for pickup or shipping. All HYS Hat Club sales are final, no returns or exchanges; discounts do not apply.

Shenandoe Farm. Again.

Just as I finished my Shenandoe cardigan, we received a new batch of Shenandoe Farm yarn. Same great yarn, now available in brown, 8 ounce cones. Come and get it.

Interweave Knits Weekend.

This week, the newest special issue of Interweave Knits magazine joined the rest of the summer magazines on the teacart. Julia shows and tells.

I first wrote about the Shenandoe Farm angora goat yarn back in April, when I introduced the local yarns nook and waxed rhapsodic about this rustic,  undyed yarn. It wasn’t long after I finished that cabled hat that I started on a sweater out of the same yarn. Now that I’ve completed said sweater, I … [more]

Summer classes.

We have a handful of new classes scheduled for the coming months, all centered around projects you may have seen around the shop lately: Have you seen the newest issue of Vogue Knitting magazine? Katherine is teaching a class on the cover project, a cabled capelet. If you’re interested in learning to cable and to … [more]

Pagewood Farm: Alyeska.

Pagewood Farm Alyeska is back in stock! Though you may know it as “the Pagewood with the cashmere,” which is what we often call it, its softness being somewhat more memorable than its name. This is decadent sock yarn, folks. Sock knitters looking to pamper their feet should consider Alyeska, as should mitten, glove, and … [more]

Lantern Moon bags.

We got a box from Lantern Moon this week, filled with special things: a few sets of their ebony needles, rosewood Sox Stix, and, most alluringly, bunches of bags. Some are small project bags, for safely stowing your knitting away, and perhaps even tucking into a purse or tote along with all the other things you … [more]

Marion Foale. Again.

I wrote before about the Marion Foale 3-ply wool. Since then, several things have happened to increase our love for this yarn, as well as our supply of it. For one, the striped top I was dreaming up is now on the needles. The yarn is a dream to knit with, and creates a fabric … [more]
