Hello, Germantown Bulky!

The weather is finally cooling down, and it has us reaching for cozier yarn. Meet the newest yarn in our shop, Kelbourne Woolens Germantown Bulky!

Kelbourne Woolens Germantown Bulky:

  • bulky weight
  • 4ply, worsted spun
  • 100% North American wool
  • 123 yards/100g
  • $16 each

Like the worsted weight Germantown before it, Germantown Bulky is smooth and sturdy, a classic and versatile worsted spun wool yarn. Germantown Bulky feels softer to our hands, squishy and springy and absolutely ideal for cold weather accessories.

One skein is enough for a hat, and the folks at Kelbourne Woolens are designing one for every month of this year. Amirisu, Issue 22.

A new issue of Amirisu is here!

Amirisu is a knitting magazine based in Japan, each issue filled with articles, interviews, and patterns from designers all over the world.

This issue features designs by Fiona Alice, Kate Gagnon Osborn, Sari Nordlund, Eri Shimizu, Dianna Walla, and more.

I spotted some familiar fibers in this issue – Kelbourne Woolens Andorra in a textured lace shawl, and Brooklyn Tweed Dapple in a feature on new yarns to try. Happy to report that we have plenty of both in stock, and that you can now make an appointment for in-store shopping to see them in person!

There’s intriguing reading material in this issue of Amirisu, too – a fiber lover’s travel guide to Okinawa, with essays about the textile traditions there.

Amirisu is $24, and available for local pickup or shipping via our online order form, or you can schedule an appointment to shop in person!

Hello, Kelbourne Woolens Camper!

We’re excited to announce that Kelbourne Woolens has a brand new yarn, and we’ve got it right here at our shop – meet Camper!

Kelbourne Woolens Camper:

  • fingering weight
  • 100% wool
  • 200 yards/50 g
  • $9.50 each

Camper is a lighter weight version of KW’s popular Scout, and comes in all the same solid and heathered colors. The fine weight, soft but sturdy fiber content, and smaller 50g skeins make it perfect for stranded colorwork, which is illustrated beautifully in the new Camper Collection!

New colors in Kelbourne Woolens Mojave.

Last week brought five new colors in Kelbourne Woolens Mojave!

Mojave is a sport weight blend of 60% cotton and 40% linen, with 185 yards on each 50 gram skein. It’s composed of five tiny 2ply yarns twisted together, for a yarn that’s smooth and soft but also strong, with the beautiful drape we expect from plant fiber yarns.

Mojave is perfect for warm weather stitching – here are some ideas for knitters and crocheters!

Sale of the Week: BC Garn Bio Balance!

We’ve decided to keep our doors closed through the month June, though we’re still virtually open for online orders. As we have done throughout April and May, we’ll have a special sale each week – 15% off a featured yarn, our Sale of the Week!

Our next Sale of the Week is 15% off BC Garn Bio Balance, from June 8 – 13!

Bio Balance is a GOTS certified organic yarn from Danish company BC Garn. It’s a sport weight blend of 55% wool and 45% cotton, a combination that brings the best of both fibers to the yarn. The wool lends elasticity and loftiness to the cool, soft cotton, and the result is a nice balance of animal and plant fibers, and smooth, well-behaved fabric.

This makes Bio Balance an especially good fit for our warm climate here in North Carolina. Here are some patterns to consider:

Usually, Bio Balance is $10 per skein; at 15% off, it’s $8.50 each. Head to our online order form if you’d like to place an order – it’ll be on sale through June 13. Thanks for all your support!
