New from Koigu!

We have all kinds of new goodies from Koigu this week, hand-dyed in vibrant colors by mother/daughter team Maie and Taiu Landra on their farm outside of Toronto, Canada.

First up, Koigu Paint Cans, five-color mini-skein sets packed up like a tiny pail of paint. Each 25 g mini skein has 87 yards of KPPPM, Koigu’s signature fingering weight merino wool, for a total of 435 yards per Paint Can. That’s just right for a pair of “Zig Zag Mittens” or “Paint Box Mittens” – scan the QR code on the side for more colorful pattern ideas!

For even more fun with mini-skeins, we have Koigu Pencil Boxes, which have 10 x 25g minis, or 870 yards total. That’s enough to knit a “Davenport,” “Rising” or “Grevillea Shawl,” or crochet a “Salsa” or “Juniper Cowl.”

We also got our monthly batch from Koigu’s Collector’s Club, 21 full sized 50 g skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color, dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

Painted Bunting is the color, a vibrant mix of neon green and cobalt blue, with streaks of marigold and cream. Stripe it into a “ZickZack Scarf,” slip stitch it into a pair of “Pressed Flowers Socks,” or pair it with mohair for a fuzzy “Sophie Scarf” – we carry many yarns that play well with Koigu!

Lopi “Weatherman” kit & Berroco 123 DropShip.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been participating in Berroco’s 123 DropShip program, which some of you have already taken advantage of – thanks so much for your orders!

This program allows you to order any Berroco yarn from us, even those we don’t usually carry, and Berroco will ship them directly to you. This makes a much wider variety of yarns available through our shop, and the price for shipping is just $7. The caveat is that Berroco DropShip sales are final, no returns or exchanges. New Brooklyn Tweed Kits!

Just in time for last minute gift shopping, we’ve put together brand new kits featuring Brooklyn Tweed Peerie!

Each kit includes a “Cloudline” hat pattern and 2 skeins of Peerie, Brooklyn Tweed’s fingering weight merino wool. For this beginner-friendly pattern, two different shades of Peerie are held together throughout, creating a marled fabric.

“Cloudline” is from the new BT by Brooklyn Tweed collection, a line of concise, beginner-level patterns.

We’ve made up a couple of kits in the color combination shown in the pattern, and created four more of our own!

Annual Inventory Sale!

As many of you know, July is our annual inventory sale month.

From July 1st to the 31st, everything in the shop is discounted by 15%, with the exception of classes and yarns that have already been discounted. If you’ve had your eye on a special skein, or have been planning a big project or two, now is the time to take the leap!

Pick up a few limited edition skeins from the Koigu Collector’s Club, treat yourself to a new book or the latest issues of Pom Pom, Amirisu, and Laine, stock up on your favorite yarns, grab a locally made soy candle while you’re at it.

Alchemy kits.

Our Roadside Beanie Kits aren’t the only new kit in the shop – we’ve also made up kits featuring Alchemy yarns and patterns, designed and lovingly hand-dyed by designer Gina Wilde. These are truly unique yarns made of luxurious silk, sometimes blended with merino wool, sometimes with an added metallic sparkle.

The lacy “Simple Shibori Cowl” is knit with Alchemy Silken Straw and Sanctuary in a straightforward feather and fan pattern, then (gulp) thrown into the washing machine to be felted. The Sanctuary felts because of its merino wool content, shrinking into a fuzzy, velvety stripe whose individual stitches are no longer distinguishable. Meanwhile, the Silken Straw stretches out, becoming softer and draping gently.

The “Sparky Serpentine Scarf” is simple and elegant, a decorative accessory and a nice small project for trying Alchemy Sparky. The mesh lace pattern is easily memorized, and sparkles in this silk yarn, which is wrapped in a metallic thread.

Roadside Beanie kits.

The shop is buzzing with excitement about the “Roadside Beanie,” Shetland Wool Week’s featured pattern for 2019. Nancy will be teaching a class on it, and we’ve just made up kits in several colorways with Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift.

The pattern shows the hat in four different Shetland yarns, including one in Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift. I’ve made up several kits in the suggested Shetland Spindrift colorway, another in shades similar to the Jamieson & Smith colorway, and two more of Anne’s design – shades of gray with pops of blue or purple.

Come by the shop to pick out a kit, or select your own color combination – we keep over 100 shades of Shetland Spindrift in stock, so the possibilities are plentiful.

Swans Island colorwork kits.

As the holidays approach, we meet more and more folks seeking presents for the knitters in their lives. With the gift-giving season in mind, we’ve put together some new kits featuring yarn and patterns from Swans Island.

Each kit features a colorwork pattern and all the yarn to complete it. They’d make great gifts for knitters who love colorwork, of course, but I’d also recommend them for those who haven’t yet mastered this particular technique, as small projects like hats and mitts are a good size for learning.

The yarn is All American Sport, a 2-ply woolen-spun yarn composed of 100% Rambouillet wool, which was grown, processed, spun, and dyed in the USA. It’s a unique combination of next-to-skin soft and holds-its-shape sturdy, and was created with stranded colorwork in mind.

Back in stock: Classy mini-skeins.

Dream in Color Classy mini-skeins are back in stock, and how!

Dream in Color only occasionally produces these 50-yard mini-skeins of their worsted weight superwash wool, Classy, and the color selection is different every time. Our last restock back in June was our biggest yet, and it sold out so quickly that we requested an equally big batch as soon as they were available again. Happy to report that the time has come!

Some are highly variegated, some are semi-solid, some are speckled, and some are hybrids, but all are hand-dyed, so there’s some color variation in each skein.

Nancy Leuer’s “Technicolor Cowl” calls for 8 of these mini-skeins, and just as before, I’ve had fun creating color combinations and kits for this project. Because we have somewhat different colors in this group than last time, I’ve created six brand new colorways.

Don’t feel limited to these combinations, however – consider them a jumping off point for your own unique cowls.

More new kits from Dream in Color.

Our newest batch of Dream in Color Classy mini-skeins is hard to miss, in three large overflowing baskets right in front of you as you walk into the shop, a stack of “Technicolor Cowl” kits just beside them. What you might not see as readily is another little display of new kits from Dream in Color, featuring two skeins of their 2ply BFL Cash/Silk.

Veronica of Dream in Color put together these kits with Lynn Di Cristina’s “Cumberland & Carey Park” shawl in mind, though the pattern is not included. Each pair features a deep charcoal paired with a pop of bright color.

There are so many patterns out there for fingering weight shawls in two colors; if these high contrast pairs catch your eye, consider also Melanie Berg’s “The Love of Spiders,” Veera Välimäki’s “Stripe Study Shawl,” Lisa Hannes’ “Laurelie,” Kirsten Kapur’s “Cladonia,” and Joji Locatelli’s “Pure Joy.”

Dream in Color Classy mini-skeins are back in stock, and how!

Dream in Color only occasionally produces these 50-yard mini-skeins of their worsted weight superwash wool, Classy, and the color selection is different every time. This order of mini-skeins is our biggest yet, boasting an astonishing 63 colors!

Some are highly variegated, some are semi-solid, some are speckled, and some are hybrids, but all are hand-dyed, so there’s some color variation in each skein.

Nancy Leuer’s “Technicolor Cowl” is a simple but entertaining project with a focus on color.

It’s knit in the round, with stripes of stockinette and reverse stockinette that make a squishy, textured fabric from this springy superwash merino yarn. The pattern is free when you purchase eight Dream in Color Classy mini-skeins for the project.
