Koigu Collector’s Club: Glass Art.

The Koigu Collector’s Club continues! Each month, we’ll receive 21 skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

Our most recent shipment from Koigu is Glass Art, another playful variegated colorway. These special skeins are predominantly silver gray, streaked and spotted with whimsical pops of purple, aqua, pink, and blue. It looks a lot like last month’s Barn Art colorway, which sold out in record time!

What to make with these pretty skeins? For a small project, try Laura Chau’s “Serviceberry Mitts,” knit with just one or two skeins of Koigu KPPPM, depending on the size. Want to play with more than one color? Check out Fatimah Hinds’ “Pigdale,” a striped hat with a bit of texture. We still have some Koigu KPPPM Ballet in stock, which pairs well with Glass Art.

Glass Art also pops against a true solid, like these three in Brooklyn Tweed Peerie.

For a larger project, check out Rebecca McKenzie’s new “Francy Shawl,” or pair Glass Art with a semisolid hand-dyed yarn for Tamy Gore’s “Kymani” shawl. Here are a few color ideas with Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply!

  • Koigu KPPPM: $15.50 each
  • Fyberspates Vivacious 4ply: $24.20 each
  • Brooklyn Tweed Peerie: $15.25 each

Get in touch if you’d like to place an order – we can ship these directly to you or hold your purchase here for pickup while our storefront is temporarily closed!

Dream in Color Sock-It Club: July.

The Dream in Color Sock-It Club is back! This time around, each limited edition skein of Smooshy comes with a 100-yard mini skein for coordinating heels and toes. July’s colorway conjures sand, sea, and colorful beach umbrellas!

Smooshy is a tightly-plied fingering weight yarn that’s ideal for sock knitting, composed of 85% superwash merino and 15% nylon for strength.

There are so many wonderful sock patterns out there, but sometimes something simple is best, especially with such a highly variegated colorway – Madeline Gannon’s “Afterthought Heel Socks” are just the ticket.

We still have a handful of last year’s Sock-It Club skein sets on hand, all at $36 each – order online during July to snag your favorites at 15% off!

Just a reminder – all sales are final during our Annual Inventory Sale, no returns or exchanges. Thanks!

Dream in Color Pop Up! Club: March.

Dream in Color’s Pop Up! Club is back! Every month, we’re getting a special new colorway from Dream in Color, a Tuscon-based producer of small batch hand-dyed yarns. March’s new limited edition colorway is here while supplies last!

This month, dyer Veronica was inspired by a photograph of colorful pottery at a little shop in Hatch, New Mexico, and she painted some of those vibrant shades on Dream in Color’s aptly-named Smooshy with Cashmere.

Smooshy with Cashmere is a super soft blend of superwash merino wool, cashmere, and nylon – perfect for a special shawl or pair of socks. A skein like this would make a great “Starshower,” “Pebble Beach Shawl,” “Sockhead Slouch Hat” or “Sockhead Cowl,” all patterns that do well with variegated yarn. Look for more pattern ideas on our “Fingering weight” board over on Pinterest.

You’ll find this limited edition colorway in the fingering weight section here at our shop, along with other special skeins from Dream in Color. See you there!

Dream in Color Pop Up! Club: February.

Dream in Color’s Pop Up! Club is back! Every month, we’re getting a special new colorway from Dream in Color, a Tuscon-based producer of small batch hand-dyed yarns. February’s new limited edition colorway is here while supplies last!

This peaceful beige Smooshy Cashmere is flecked with streaks of rose and an occasional dash of green.

Use this yarn on its own for a special pair of socks, fingerless mitts, or a shawl, or combine it with a lace weight mohair for a fuzzy halo and slightly thicker fabric.

Shibui Silk Cloud and Tweed Silk Cloud pair well with this yarn – think Isabell Kraemer’s “Leni” hat, Tin Can Knits’ “Love Note” pullover, or Midori Hirose’s “Ranunculus” pullover.

Koigu Collector’s Club: Utopia.

The Koigu Collector’s Club continues! Each month, we’ll receive 21 skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

KPPPM is a fingering weight superwash merino, hand-dyed in vibrant colors by mother/daughter team Maie and Taiu Landra on their farm outside of Toronto, Canada.

This superwash merino yarn is speckled and streaked with shades of peach and plum, a sweet combination that Koigu calls Utopia.

See you there!

Koigu Collector’s Club: Sheep.

The Koigu Collector’s Club continues! Each month, we’ll receive a batch of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

The inspiration for this batch is Sheep, the beloved animal whose fleece makes some of our favorite yarn. Dyed on KPPPM, Koigu’s signature fingering weight superwash merino wool, this variegated colorway is ideal for making shawls, cowls, baby sweaters, and of course, socks.

As yarn-lovers, we have a particular fondness for sheep, and our friends and clients have kindly remembered that proclivity, bringing us decorative sheep from time to time. Peek into our front window or look around the shop, and you’ll find sheep made of wool, paper, beaded wire, ceramic, and wood. We find them to be fitting decor, though we often have to say, “Sorry, they’re not for sale!”

Look for this special colorway in the fingering weight section here at our shop, along with various other Koigu Collector’s club skeins. See you there!

Hello, Brooklyn Tweed Ranch 02.

We are delighted to announce that Brooklyn Tweed’s newest yarn has arrived!

Meet Ranch 02, the second in Brooklyn Tweed’s series of ranch-specific, small-batch yarns.

Ranch 02 is a worsted weight, woolen-spun, limited edition, ranch-specific Rambouillet yarn, which means every fiber in these skeins was sourced from a single flock of sheep living on Forbes Ranch in Kaycee, Wyoming.

Brooklyn Tweed has always sought to highlight single breed wools and support US ranchers with sustainable environmental practices. This project allows them to shine a spotlight on the people and practices behind their yarns, one ranch at a time. You can learn more about Forbes Ranch from a lovely video produced by BT – it gives a good sense of the people who made this yarn possible.

After the wool was sourced at Forbes Ranch in Wyoming, scoured at Bollman Industries in Texas, and spun at Crescent Woolen Mill in Wisconsin, it traveled to Pennsylvania to be dyed at Caledonian Dye Works. The 10-color palette is inspired by the landscape of northern Wyoming, and the sheep that roam the land.

What to knit with Ranch 02? Anything that calls for Shelter, Ranch 01, or worsted weight yarn of any kind. Here are a few ideas from the BT archive, all available to purchase from Ravelry and many available in print here at the shop:

Looking beyond Brooklyn Tweed designs, here are a few other patterns that would be great for Ranch 02:

Jared Flood has also designed two new patterns especially for Ranch 02, a textured yoke pullover and a cabled hat. As a special treat, you can get a coupon for a free download of Flood’s “Tillage Hat” with any purchase of Ranch 02 here at our shop!

Look for Ranch 02 in the worsted weight section here at our shop while supplies last, and check out our full selection of Brooklyn Tweed yarns and patterns while you’re here. See you at the shop!
