Going-to-Market Sale!

Our annual trip to market is coming up in early June, which means it’s time to make some room for new Fall and Winter yarns with a big sale. Come by the shop for our annual Going-to-Market Sale!

From May 10th – June 5th, all in stock Colinette and Schulana yarns will be deeply discounted, along with Fibre Company Savannah. Look for 30% discounts on single skeins and 40% discounts on 10 or more.

Between Colinette and Schulana, we have a wide range of gauges, fibers, and textures represented, from lace to bulky weight, from superwash wool to bamboo and soy, from solids to variegates. Going-to-Market Sale yarns include: Fibre Company Savannah, Colinette Banyan, Cadenza, and Jitterbug, Schulana Cashmerino, Cotton Silk, Insieme, Kid Seta, Lambswool, and Sojabama. We’re also tucking a few other yarns into our Sale Trunk, so be sure to check there while you’re shopping the Going-to-Market Sale!

Baa Ram Ewe Trunk Show!

We’re delighted to be hosting a Baa Ram Ewe Trunk Show, featuring garments from Carol Feller’s Dovestone Hills.

All six of these garments are knit in Baa Ram Ewe Dovestone DK, a dk weight blend of 50% bluefaced leicester, 25% masham, and 25% wensleydale wools, all sourced and spun in the UK. We’re offering a 10% discount on this special yarn while the trunk show is here.

Triangle Yarn Crawl.

The Triangle Yarn Crawl is a self-guided tour of local yarn shops, where yarn-lovers get together and hop from one shop to the next, shopping, entering raffles, and seeing the full breadth of available fibers. They happen twice a year, and the time has come again: the Spring 2016 crawl is coming up soon on April 16th and 17th! This year, the TYC Kickoff will be here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop, so come by on Saturday, April 16th, between 9:00 and 10:00 am for coffee, snacks, and raffles.

Each local yarn shop has something special to offer, and we’re no exception: all of the books we currently have in stock will be 25% off during the weekend of the Triangle Yarn Crawl! Indulge in some of the latest publications, or pick up a handy resource you’ve been needing. If you’re looking for recommendations, Anne and I are more than happy to oblige–we love our books almost as much as we love our yarns.

We’ll also have a Baa Ram Ewe Trunk Show on display, featuring garments knit in Dovestone DK. We’re offering a 10% discount on Dovestone DK during the show, which will be on display here at the shop until May 8th.

There’s a bag of goodies at each of the participating shops, a raffle prize full of yarn, patterns, and more. Some of its contents are donated by TYC sponsors, and others come from our own collection here at the shop.

We’ve tucked some special things into the raffle prize this time, including a Romney Ridge Farm needle-felting kit, a Swans Island project bag, and one of our very newest locally-made products: a sweet-smelling sheep soap handmade by Lucia Apollo Shaw, our next door neighbor on Churton Street. Stop by her lovely shop, the Qi Garden, while you’re here in Hillsborough!

We’re lucky to live in such a fiber-friendly part of the world, with so many choices available to us, and the Triangle Yarn Crawl is a great time to see all of those choices. Come see us as you’re crawling along!

Mirasol Samp’a: now on sale!

Another discontinued yarn has moved to the Sale Trunk here at the shop: Mirasol Samp’a. It’s a lovely yarn, but since it’s no longer manufactured, we’re now offering it at a deep discount of over 25% off the original price!

Mirasol Samp’a is a DK weight 100% organic cotton, naturally dyed in a pleasing palette of pastels, punctuated by a few brights. Consider this yarn for baby sweaters and blankets, washcloths and market bags, summer shawls and tees. Look for more pattern ideas on our “DK weight” Pinterest board!

Though we’re sad to see good yarns go, we love sharing them with you at a discounted price. Come by to pick up some Samp’a at a great price before it disappears!

Cumbria Collection Trunk Show!

Our first Trunk Show of 2016 has arrived, and we’ve decorated our walls with the Kelbourne Woolens Cumbria Collection, featuring garments knit in Fibre Company Cumbria Worsted.

These designs are inspired by the knitting tradition of the British Isles, from ganseys to stranded colorwork to cables.

The Cumbria Collection features a variety of sweaters and accessories that look fun and interesting to knit and comfortable to wear.

Knit in a hearty worsted weight blend of 60% merino wool, 30% masham wool, and 10% mohair, these garments should weather regular wear, maintaining their shape for years to come.

Come by the shop before February 21st, 2016, to admire, try on for size, and get a tangible sense of how this yarn behaves in a variety of knitted fabrics. We’re offering a 10% discount on Fibre Company Cumbria during the Trunk Show, so come by soon to plan your next project!

Friends of Shibui Trunk Show.

Another trunk show has arrived, another opportunity to see hand-knit garments in person, which is always better than in photographs. Come by the shop before November 24th, 2015, to see garments by independent designers Julie Hoover and Steve Rousseau knit in Shibui yarns!

We have five of Julie Hoover’s designs on the wall, four sweaters and one cowl, and they all share that elegant, simple-with-a-twist aesthetic that Shibui is known for.

Steve Rousseau’s designs are something very different: contemporary lace shawls with graphic, geometric motifs. We have seven of his rectangular shawls on display and one triangular shawl, and they all beg to be admired and studied closely.

All the garments in this show are made with Shibui Pebble, a lace weight blend of 48% recycled silk, 36% wool, and 16% cashmere.

Most of these pieces use this delicate yarn held singly, but a few sweaters are knit with two strands of Pebble held together throughout, for a thicker fabric.

All of the patterns are available as Ravelry In-Store Pattern Sales, where we print a copy for you and a digital copy is also saved in your email or Ravelry pattern library. We’re offering all in-stock Shibui yarns at a 10% discount during this Friends of Shibui Trunk Show, so visit us before November 24th to plan your next project in Shibui yarns!

Araucania Toconao: now on sale!

Another discontinued yarn has moved to the Sale Trunk here at the shop: Araucania Toconao. It’s a lovely springy yarn, but since it’s no longer manufactured, we’re now offering it at a deep discount of about 30% off the original price!

Toconao is an aran weight merino wool, soft and smooth, with sharp stitch definition. It’s hand-dyed in mostly semi-solid colorways, so alternating skeins is a good idea if your project requires more than one skein.

One 139 yard skein makes a hat or a pair of “Fetching” mitts, two makes a small “Oats” or “Honey Cowl;” pick up a third skein for a generous cowl or scarf. Look for more pattern ideas on our “Aran weight” board over on Pinterest!

Though we’re sad to see good yarns go, we love sharing them with you at a discounted price. Come by to pick up some Toconao at a great price before it disappears!

Anniversary Sale!

As you may remember from years past, or may have seen in our most recent email newsletter, October marks the nine year anniversary of the Hillsborough Yarn Shop. The shop has grown and changed since Anne first opened in 2006, when the News of Orange reported on the new business at 114 S. Churton Street. We are so grateful to all of you for your support over the years, for shopping and learning and sharing with us!

As we enter our tenth year in business, we’ll celebrate in our usual way: an anniversary sale! From Friday October 30th – Sunday November 1st, everything in the shop will be 15% off, with the exception of classes and that which is already discounted. This is the time to treat yourself to some exciting new yarns, and save on that big project you’ve been wanting to start this fall. Maybe you’ve had your eye on a loom, a yarn bowl, or a Jul Forager bag–those are all discounted, too.

Triangle Yarn Crawl.

The Triangle Yarn Crawl is a self-guided tour of local yarn shops, where knitters and crocheters get together and hop from one shop to the next, shopping, entering raffles, and seeing the full breadth of available fibers. They happen twice a year, and the time has come again: the Autumn 2015 crawl is coming up this weekend on October 24th and 25th!

Each local yarn shop has something special to offer, and we’re no exception: all in-stock kits are 10% off during the yarn crawl!

The yarn crawl also coincides with our Swans Island Trunk Show, another special something to see when you visit the Hillsborough Yarn Shop this weekend. Swans Island Trunk Show.

Our next trunk show of the season has arrived, featuring garments from Swans Island! We’re offering a 10% discount on all in-stock Swans Island yarn during the show, so come by soon to see it for yourself.

We’ve got six garments here on display until November 1st, five sweaters and a hat and mitt set. All of them are knit in Swans Island’s newest yarn, All American Sport, a delightfully springy 100% Rambouillet wool that’s hand-dyed in a wide range of colors.

These are just a few of the patterns from Swans Island’s All American Sport Collection, which features many different applications of two-color knitting. I’ve got Isabell Kraemer’s “Kaarina Pullover” on my needles now, and can hardly wait to wear it.
