Knightsbridge Trunk Show!

We’re excited to be hosting a Fibre Company Trunk Show: the Knightsbridge Collection!

DSCN4779

The Knightsbridge Collection features menswear-inspired designs from Kate Gagnon Osborne, Courtney Kelley, and the rest of the Kelbourne Woolens design team, along with independent designers, the likes of Bristol Ivy, Isabell Kraemer, Carrie Bostick Hoge, and more. This collection boasts a wide variety of garments, from hats, scarves, and legwarmers to vests, cardigans, pullovers, and one stunning shrug.

All of these pieces are knit in Fibre Company Knightsbridge, a light worsted weight blend of llama, merino, and silk that knits up comfortably between 5 and 5.5 stitches per inch.

DSCN4780

Knightsbridge renders cables and other texture patterns surprisingly well for such a soft yarn; I’m really impressed with how it behaves in knitted fabric.

DSCN4783

We’ve stocked up on Knightsbridge and all of these patterns in time for the Trunk Show; come by to look them over, try on a sweater or two, and perhaps find your next project.

We’ll have the Knightsbridge Trunk Show on display here at the shop until August 19th, 2015. Stop by soon to see it for yourself!

Shibui Trunk Show!

Our walls are newly decorated with an exciting Shibui Trunk Show! We’ll have 8 garments from their Spring/Summer 2015 pattern collection on display here at the shop until June 24th.

Many of these garments feature their newest yarn, Twig, a slightly textured sport weight blend of 46% linen, 42% recycled silk, and 12% wool.

DSCN4659

Several of these summer tops are knit with Shibui Linen and Cima held together, a combination I’ve knit and loved myself.

DSCN4661

There are many fun and useful things about trunk shows, like being able to play a bit of dress-up and try garments on for size, but one of the best aspects of a Shibui trunk show is seeing these yarn combinations in person.

DSCN4660

Come by before the 24th to see the Shibui Trunk Show for yourself!

Baa Ram Ewe Trunk Show!

We’re delighted to be hosting a Baa Ram Ewe Trunk Show, featuring garments from Rachel Coopey’s Coop Knits Toasty Vol. 1!

DSCN4443

All of these accessories are knit with Baa Ram Ewe Titus, a fingering weight blend of alpaca, Wensleydale, and Bluefaced Leicester wools, sourced and spun entirely in the UK.

This collection shows how well Titus behaves in a variety of stitch patterns, from smooth stranded colorwork to texture patterns, cables, and lace.

Ewe Ewe Trunk Show!

Snowy weather delayed our Ewe Ewe Trunk Show a bit, but now it’s here!

DSCN4311

We have a variety of garments on display knit in Ewe Ewe’s superwash merino yarns, Ewe So Sporty and Wooly Worsted.

DSCN4310

From small projects, like socks, mitts and cowls, all the way up to baby blankets, shawls, and sweaters, the range of garments here reflects the multiplicity of uses for these soft, easy-care yarns.

DSCN4313

Come by the shop this weekend to see the Ewe Ewe Trunk Show! We’ll have it on display until Tuesday, March 3rd.

Malabrigo Trunk Show!

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve received a trunk show featuring garments knit in Malabrigo yarns!

DSCN4298

Malabrigo is a small yarn company out of Uruguay that is well known for its soft merino yarns, and their vivid, hand-dyed colorways.

DSCN4293

This collection features a variety of accessories and a few sweaters, knit in a wide range of Malabrigo yarns, including Sock, Arroyo, Silky Merino, and Rasta.

DSCN4296 DSCN4294

We’ll have these garments on display at the shop until March 6th; come by to see them, touch them, and plan a project or two in Malabrigo yarns!

Shibui Trunk Show.

Today we were surprised and delighted to receive our Shibui Trunk Show a few days early. This show features five garments from their Fall/Winter 2014 collection, which we’ll have on display until January 21st.

DSCN4074

Shibui yarns are designed to be knit on their own or held together, using two or three strands at a time to make bespoke yarn blends. We currently stock five Shibui yarns: CimaPebble, Silk Cloud, Linen, and Maai. Some of these trunk show garments are knit with one or two of those yarns, and some of these garments combine them with Shibui yarns that we don’t keep in stock at the shop, like Shibui Staccato and Baby Alpaca. We’re happy to order any of those yarns for you if you’re willing to prepay for a special order.

DSCN4069

It’s also possible to substitute yarns, of course; above is one such example, serendipitously brought in for show and tell only a few hours before the trunk show arrived.

DSCN4071

Paula knit this “Mix No. 34” cowl with Shibui Maai, rather than the Silk Cloud/Staccato mix suggested in the pattern. She was able to get gauge, and though the texture is a little different than the original, it’s just as lovely.

DSCN4081

There are many fun and useful things about trunk shows, like being able to play a bit of dress-up and try garments on for size, but one of the best aspects of a Shibui trunk show is seeing these yarn combinations in person.

DSCN4079

It can be hard enough to imagine how a single yarn will behave as knitted fabric; throw two different colors or fibers into the mix and it can be a real leap of faith. That’s where our shop samples and swatches are most helpful–ah, this is how Cima and Pebble work up together–and whole garments are even more illuminating.

Come by before the 21st to see the Shibui Trunk Show for yourself!

Weekenders Trunk Show.

It’s been a season of trunk shows here at the shop. Since September, we’ve shown garments from Shibui, Hanne Falkenberg, and Swans Island, inspiring knitters along the way. I’m happy to report that our next trunk show has arrived!

weekenders

Here is a trunk show from Fibre Company, featuring all five garments from the Weekenders pattern collection, three hats and two cowls. Each of the accessories in this collection are knit with just one skein of Fibre Company Canopy Worsted, a soft and lustrous blend of merino, alpaca, and bamboo.

An accessory show like this one seems especially well-suited to the season, as many of us are planning small projects to give as holiday gifts. A skein of this special yarn and a copy of Weekenders would make a great gift for a knitter, too.

DSCN2597

Come by during the Trunk Show to see the garments for yourself and plan your next project. We’re closed Thursday, November 27th, for Thanksgiving, but we’ll have the Weekenders Trunk Show on display until December 17th. Have a great holiday; see you at the shop!

Swans Island Trunk Show.

We’re delighted to announce that our next trunk show of the season has arrived, featuring garments from Swans Island!

DSCN3857

We’ve got six garments on display here at the shop until November 23rd: Bristol Ivy’s “Offshore V-Neck,” Alicia Plummer’s “Arrowhead Shawl,” Leah B. Thibault’s “Breakwater Pullover,” Michele Rose Orne’s “Celtic Mitts,” Stacey McCrea Warner’s “Spindrift Cowl,” and Isabell Kraemer’s “Audrey Cardigan.”

DSCN3858

Most of these garments are knit in Swans Island All American Worsted, a 2-ply woolen-spun blend of 75% Rambouillet wool and 25% alpaca. Since we first introduced this yarn in September, we’ve been through several reorders, accumulating a few new colors here and there. We now have every available color in All American Worsted!

DSCN3775

Come by the shop before November 23rd to see and try on these garments and accessories, and consider Swans Island All American Worsted for your next project!

DSCN3859

Hanne Falkenberg Trunk Show.

We’re thrilled to announce that the Hanne Falkenberg Trunk Show arrived early, giving us more time to enjoy these ten beautiful garments!

DSCN3797

Hanne Falkenberg is a Danish designer whose patterns come in kits with her signature Shetland yarn, and are often made in garter stitch with flattering short-row shaping and colorful stripes. They are always constructed in surprising ways to intrigue the knitter and compliment the wearer.

DSCN3789

Over the years, we’ve had a few Hanne Falkenberg Trunk Shows, each time getting different designs in different colorways. This group includes Falkenberg’s very newest, “Ypsilon,” a short sleeved cardigan decorated with flattering vertical stripes.

DSCN3796

We always have a handful of Falkenberg kits in stock at the shop, though the selection changes from time to time.

DSCN3798

As I’m writing this, we have “Lascala,” “Luna,” “Lastrada,” and “Mariager” on the shelf, and now “Ypsilon” joins the ranks, in three different color combinations.

DSCN3799

There may well be another Falkenberg design you like, or a colorway you prefer; we’re more than happy to order it for you. In fact, during the Trunk Show, we’re offering a 20% discount to those who prepay for their Hanne Falkenberg kit orders!

DSCN3804

Come by the shop before November 9th to admire these clever garments, try them on, and place your order!

Just a reminder–all sales are final on discounted items; there can be no exchanges and no returns. Discount applies only to in-store purchases. Thanks!

Shibui Monochrome Trunk Show.

Yesterday, we were surprised and delighted to receive the Shibui Monochrome Trunk Show a few days early. Why wait? We put them right up on the wall, after petting them a bit.

DSCN3674

The Monochrome Collection features designs by Kirsten Johnstone, all of which are knit with multiple strands of yarn at a time. There are many fun and useful things about trunk shows, like being able to play a bit of dress-up and try garments on for size, but one of the best aspects of a Shibui trunk show is seeing these yarn combinations in person.

DSCN3679

It can be hard enough to imagine how a single yarn will behave as knitted fabric; throw two different colors or fibers into the mix and it can be a real leap of faith. That’s where our shop samples and swatches are most helpful–ah, this is how Cima and Silk Cloud work up together–and whole garments are even more illuminating.

DSCN3680Come by the shop before October 14th to see the Shibui Monochrome Trunk Show for yourself: try on the garments, browse the patterns, and plan your next project.

See you there!
